The winner of the 2009 Longtze European Tour, German airline Lufthansa, is an enthusiastic, passionate and talented participant in the 2010 Figaro Circuit! Lufthansa first became involved in the world of sailing just last year, participating in the first Longtze European Tour and its five events. The challenge of defending the airline’s title is up to the team led by skipper Luc Gellusseau (8 times World Champion) aboard the “Longtze Team Lufthansa - FRA 818”. Lufthansa put on a brilliant performance to win the title following a suspense-filled, emotional competition. “Performance, innovation, emotion and ecology are all essential in sailing.” The Figaro Bénéteau Circuit: Lufthansa’s latest challengeLufthansa is to participate in four prestigious events on the Figaro Circuit: The “Transat AG2R” (double-handed): 18 April, 2010 (Concarneau – Saint Barthélémy) The “Quiberon Solo” (single-handed): 12-19 June, 2010 (Quiberon Bay) The “Solitaire du Figaro” (single-handed): 20 July - 22 August, 2010 The “Cap Istanbul” (single-handed): 14 September - 16 October, 2010 (Nice, France - Trapani, Sicily - Athens, Greece - Bodrum, Turkey - Istanbul, Turkey) Key circuit features: the navigation system aboard the Figaro Bénéteau 2 was designed by and for single-handed sailors, born from the collaboration between naval architect Marc Lombard and all the “Figarists”. “The solo racers conceived it to their image, the architect dreamed it, and the shipyard built it, respecting the spirit of its industrial field,” affirms the constructor. The Figaro Bénéteau 2 is in fact larger and more powerful than its predecessor, integrating numerous new developments in terms of construction, innovation and design. Lufthansa will count on the support of its boat sponsors, Murphy & Nye, Breitling, Sixt, Swiss and Toshiba, to help with this new challenge.
