Live from the Transat with the Lufthansa Sailing Team

Message from Ronan Treussart and Yannick Le Clech, on board the Lufthansa, 24 hours after the start of the Transat

Hello!

A routine has rapidly established itself aboard the Lufthansa since last night, with each of us taking a turn at the helm for 2 hours whilst the other rests, interspersed with regular reviews of weather and manoeuvre analyses.

We are happy with our start in this transatlantic event. The coastal course in Concarneau Bay was at times difficult; the great many watercraft meant it was not easy to maintain speed between the becalm of the large speedboats and the choppy waters created by spectators wishing to get close to those racing.

We put on a good show for our supporters, taking the lead at the clearing buoy and alternating between first and second place around the entire short course.

Satisfied with our first performance, we then carefully tacked along the south coast of Finistère, hugging the rocks before heading out to sea shortly before Penmarch!

The night was a starry one, calm and beautiful, with a few dolphins, blazing white torpedoes because of the plankton, coming to play at our bow. We have been flying the spinnaker since the middle of the night and are now gliding west-south-west.

The next step will be the jibe to sail towards Cap Finistère and negotiation of the first ridge.

Until next time!
