Lufthansa finishes ninth in the Transat
11/05/10
23 days, 7 hours, 21 minutes and 38 seconds to cross the Atlantic.
Lufthansa crosses the finishing line of the Transat AG2R-La Mondiale at 15:21 and 38 seconds (Saint Barthélémy local time), or 21:21 and 38 seconds (Paris local time). Average speed: 6.91 knots.
Ronan Treussart and Yannick Le Clech finish ninth out of the 25 boats participating.
Ronan: “We started off strong from Concarneau and were first off the start and well-placed during long stretches of the race. Off Portugal, we weren’t far off the group of four… We can’t say we aren’t pleased to have arrived. We still had a nice run to reach St Barts. Yannick and I have known each other for years now; we knew where we were heading when we set off together. Coming under the top ten was the goal we set ourselves before the start: we are therefore extremely pleased with this performance. It was not easy given the exceptionally high level in this field.”
Yannick: “Sailing for 24 hours a day for 23 days is no small feat. I’ve been training for this project with Ronan for three months now, and in ten days I’ll be back in the office. It was a wonderful adventure. We arrived in good shape. It’s difficult, but at the same time, it all goes very easily. Off Portugal, we enjoyed a magical moment when a pod of dolphins – simply dozens of them – suddenly emerged from the perfectly flat, calm sea. It was incredible!”
