Lufthansa reaches halfway point on the Transat

Message from Ronan Treussart and Yannick Le Clech, on board the Lufthansa, May 4, 2010 at 18:52
Since this evening, the southward-sailing lead group, which we are part of, has begun heading west: it’s a battle of the gybes!!! With several degrees of roll, everyone is trying to move to the SW! Aims: gain wind force and work the approach angle towards the Caribbean.
Aboard the Lufthansa, we have begun a little game with the Macif’s boys – Eric and Gwen – who are just behind us! It’s nice to have a boat in sight: it motivates us and allows us to reassure ourselves of the VMG. We hadn’t been able to see anyone since the Canary Islands.
The sun beats down during the days!! Covered from head to foot, we take turns at the helm to try to catch up a few centimetres... The gybes lead to incredible increases in temperatures. We’ve come to miss the present refreshing 14 degrees in Brittany :-)
1,350 miles from St. Barts, so we will not go as far as the Venezuelan coast.
We are on the same latitude as Casamance in the south of Senegal; it’s simply amazing!
Until next time!
